4 methods to solve overburning caused by laser cutting

what is burnt?
Metal laser cutting machines will generate a lot of heat when processing sheet metal. Under normal circumstances, the heat generated by cutting will diffuse along the slit into the processed sheet metal to be fully cooled. In the processing of small holes by metal laser cutting machine, the outside of the hole can be fully cooled, but the small hole part inside the single hole is easy to cause overburning and dross due to the small space for heat to diffuse and the heat energy is too concentrated. In addition, in thick plate cutting, the molten metal accumulated on the surface of the material and the accumulation of heat generated during perforation will disturb the auxiliary air flow and cause excessive heat input, which will cause overburning.

How to avoid overburning when laser cutting sheet metal?
1. Corner position plus cooling point
When cutting sharp-edged metal sheets, the place where overburning is more likely to occur is often at the sharp corner. Overburning will cut the sharp corner into a round shape. At this time, you can add a cooling point at the sharp corner. Pause and blow.

2. Using high-power lasers
Higher power lasers can be used when cutting carbon steel, and the bright surface cutting process can effectively avoid overburning, and this cutting process can cut out burr-free, bright cut products.

3. Cutting with nitrogen gas
In sheet metal cutting with oxygen as the auxiliary gas, nitrogen can be switched for cutting. During nitrogen cutting, the material is completely melted by laser energy, and the nitrogen blows out the kerf and avoids unsuitable chemical reactions. The temperature in the melting point area is relatively low, coupled with the cooling and protection effect of nitrogen, the reaction is stable and uniform, and the cutting quality is high. The section is fine and smooth, the surface roughness is low, and there is no oxide layer.
4. Increase air pressure
When using a fiber laser cutting machine to process aluminum alloy and stainless steel, the auxiliary gas used is nitrogen or air, which will not cause edge burning during cutting, but due to the high temperature of the material inside the small hole, the slag phenomenon inside will be relatively large frequently. In this case, the burr and slag can be reduced by increasing the pressure of the auxiliary gas.
